A recent research published in New York Time suggests that Google is actively preparing an alternative to (already lost) iPad which will run on its fav platform, Android! This news became public when Google’s (old and gold) CEO was found discussing the idea of launching a device similar to iPad pretty soon. And he looked excited by the fact that it will run on Android.

Though no specific features of Google’s version of iPad was overheard by this New York Time’s reporter in that party yet experts suggest the device to have almost similar specifications when compared to its counterparts iPad and HP Slate (too

Report: Apple to support iPhone multitasking

Apple will reportedly offer a multitasking "solution" for third-party apps with the release of its long-awaited iPhone OS 4.0.

According to AppleInsider, the update will allow a number of applications to run both concurrently and in the background.

"[Apple] has [apparently] developed a 'full-on solution' to multitasking on the iPhone OS. [However, there are] no specifics on how the technology would optimize resource conservation and battery life - two of the most critical issues surrounding the matter, alongside security," wrote AppleInsider's Kasper Jade and Prince McLean.

"From a user-facing perspective, Apple plans to deliver a multi-tasking manager that leverages interface technology already bundled with its Mac OS X operating system. It was requested that specifics be withheld at this time, as the iPhone Software 4.0 remains under development and reportedly has a quite 'way to go' before it's ready for prime time."

Jade and McLean also noted that although Apple defines the iPhone 3.x OS as a "fully preemptive" multitasking operating system, it routinely prevents third-party applications from running in the background.

"[Still], while often reported as begin a technical flaw, the iPhone OS really has no problem with multitasking," explained Jade and McLean.

"This behavior is prevented by the iPhone OS' security model, which is designed to close the current app whenever the user returns to the Home screen or accepts an incoming call. This design prevents apps from being able to run in the background without the user knowing, and therefore erases any real potential for spyware, adware and viruses."

What the Generation 2 iPad should look like

I’ve been watching the feeds from folks who bought the initial wave of non-3G iPads (why you would get one of these without 3G is beyond me) and think we can come up with an initial list of things that folks will want in generation 2.

Let’s cover that today:

Better Wireless Connectivity

Folks have initially been having problems with Wi-Fi connectivity and my bet is with 3G they will have issues with both connectivity and bandwidth much like they did with the iPhone. Clearly the device favors a low cost service and the combination suggests, along with the current roll out of 4G, that the next iPad should have a reasonably priced 4G service.

It could be WiMax or LTE but it would need to be reasonably priced suggesting a clear plus would be iPhone tethering for the device so you wouldn’t have to subscribe to a redundant data service if you had both devices. So I’m thinking a Wi-Fi iPhone tethered configuration or a higher priced 4G device

Sharp announces four-color 3D LCD displays

Sharp has announced the first four-primary-color 3D LCD, claiming it will give a brighter image than current models with very little ghosting.

It's claimed to be a big improvement on the usual shutter-based 3D technology, which Sharp says suffers from low brightness and crosstalk. It still needs special glasses, though.

It uses four base colors, adding yellow to the usual trio of red, green and blue. This means that light transmission through the panel is more efficient, and provides a wider range of colors.

The system is also claimed to reduce flickering by refreshing images much more quickly, and to be 80 percent brighter than existing models. Cross-talk, or ghosting, is reduced through the use of side-mount scanning LED backlight technology.

TVs based on the display will go on sale in Japan by the middle of the year under the company's Aquos brand, with global sales set to start by year-end. Sharp says it hasn't decided whether or not to supply the displays to other manufacturers.

The company says it expects 3D displays to account for up to 10 percent of TV sales this year, rising to as much as 30 percent in the next few years.

Throw your hard drive away, Google's Gdrive arriving in 2009

Chicago (IL) - Google Drive, or Gdrive as it is better known, has to be the most
anticipated Google product so far. When it arrives, Gdrive will likely
cause a major paradigm shift in how we use computers and bring Google
one step closer to dethroning Windows on your desktop.

The service has
the potential to eclipse even Gmail, Google's second best-known product
after their google.com search engine. That said, it's no wonder users have
been ripe with anticipation for years - yes, that's how long the
rumors have persisted. Gdrive is basically online storage where Google
servers have enough capacity to hold the entire contents of your hard drive. It
will likely also come with enough brains to do cool tricks now with bigger
things down the road - like booting your computer from online drive to
load the Google operating system.

Gdrive is basically a cloud-based storage that should have two faces: A desktop client that keeps
local and online files and folders in two-directional sync via a web
interface for accessing your desktop files anywhere and anytime, using any network-enabled computer. In addition, it will come tightly integrated with other Google services to enable
editing of supported document types, like spreadsheets and
presentations via Google Docs, email via Gmail, images via Picasa Web
Albums, etc.

The RollTop laptop wraps up like a banner, sports a flexible OLED display

Some geeks are crazier than we imagine. Thanks to their craziness and some great OLED technology, we might soon have laptops that have gone the way of those charming papyrus scrolls of ancient times. Ah yes, if Orkin Design's Rolltop ever comes into our lives, even the zippiest laptops of today may become pieces of history that our children will learn from a trip to the museum.

Okay, that's easier said than done, but no harm in letting ourselves oggle and drool over this crazy German invention that looks (and functions) like a laptop/tablet, but rolls up like a hedgehog when you are done. The Rolltop is the concept for a laptop/tablet PC that has a flexible, multitouch OLED display that spreads out in a 17-inch screen when open, but rolls up into a 13-inch portable cylinder when closed. The stylus, power adapter and USB ports are all on a detachable stand while the other standard accompaniments such as the mouse, keyboard, webcam and power cable are integrated beautifully into the Rolltop itself. And the OLED display also means a much lower power consumption and an "outstanding" battery life.

Is that the most awesome design we've set our eyes on lately? Nah. That's an understatement.

Catch the Rolltop video after the break.
